PNP application structure

Know the Two Routes.

A provincial nomination can connect to permanent residence through Express Entry or through a non-Express Entry process.

01
Enhanced nomination

Express Entry Route

You must qualify for both an Express Entry program and an aligned provincial stream. Under current rules, a nomination adds 600 CRS points.

  • Federal program eligibility
  • Provincial stream eligibility
  • Express Entry profile and nomination
Review Express Entry Canada →
02
Base nomination

Non-Express Entry Route

You apply to a province under a base stream, receive a nomination and then submit a separate permanent-residence application to IRCC.

  • Province-first application
  • Nomination certificate
  • Separate federal PR stage

Provincial selection factors

Location Changes Eligibility.

The same applicant can have a very different outcome across provinces because local priorities, connections and stream rules are different.

01

Occupation and Experience

Your duties, skill level, sector and years of experience may influence stream fit or invitation priority.

02

Employer and Job

Some routes require a qualifying job offer, eligible employer and province-specific support.

03

Language and Education

Language scores, education and credential assessment can affect eligibility and ranking.

04

Your Provincial Connections

Work, study, family or prior residence may strengthen—or sometimes be required for—the route.

05

Settlement and Funds

The province may assess your genuine destination plan, family needs and financial preparation.

06

Current Program Status

Streams can open, pause, target specific profiles or reach annual nomination limits.

Beyond provincial nomination

Look Beyond the PNP.

Some location-based pathways operate separately from standard PNP streams. They should be compared—not treated as interchangeable.

RedVisa planning note

A strong profile in the wrong province can be weaker than a well-connected profile matched to the right current stream.

Nomination to permanent residence

Follow The Right PNP Sequence.

Move from province fit and stream eligibility to nomination, federal filing and a credible settlement plan.

01

Assess Province Fit

Review occupation, language, education, experience, connections and destination.

02

Confirm The Stream

Check current criteria, intake status, invitation method and employer rules.

03

Apply For Nomination

Submit the provincial application or follow the province’s Express Entry process.

04

Accept The Nomination

Follow nomination conditions and, for an enhanced route, accept it in Express Entry.

05

Submit Federal PR

Use the correct federal process and prove admissibility, identity and nomination facts.

Provincial planning risks

Avoid Provincial Planning Mistakes.

Most problems begin when the applicant chooses a province from reputation alone and checks the actual stream later.

A preferred city or province does not create program eligibility. The current stream, applicant profile and destination plan must align.
