Study in Canada, With Clarity.
Strategic guidance for a new Canadian study permit—from choosing the right institution and documenting your finances to presenting a credible, well-supported study purpose.
Start With the Right Foundation.
A strong application brings the institution, program, finances and temporary study purpose into one clear, credible story.
Eligible Institution
Your acceptance must come from a designated learning institution and match the program you present to IRCC.
Valid LOA and PAL
Provide a valid letter of acceptance and, unless exempt, a PAL or TAL valid for the year you apply.
Financial Capacity
Show credible access to tuition, living expenses and return transportation without depending on work in Canada.
Purpose and Progression
Explain why this program, institution and timing make sense for your education and professional direction.
Find Your Next Step.
Select the stage closest to yours. The result gives a preparation focus—not an eligibility or approval decision.
Choose Beyond the Offer Letter
Confirm DLI status, program fit, total cost, location and possible post-graduation implications before committing tuition.
Build One Coherent Case.
Each document should support the same explanation: why you chose this program, how it will be funded and why the temporary study plan is credible.

Do not simply resubmitCheck Requirements Before Filing.
PAL or TAL rules, financial amounts, DLI status and application instructions can change. Verify the official requirements that apply on your submission date.
Make the Story Credible.
Officers assess whether the program, finances and temporary purpose make sense together—not whether a checklist merely contains files.
Explain the Progression
Show why this program is a sensible next step after your previous education and experience.
Show Reliable Funding
Explain the source, ownership and availability of funds—not only the final bank balance.
Address Future Intent
Demonstrate that you understand and will respect the conditions of temporary residence.
Resolve Every Mismatch
Names, dates, education, employment, funds and prior applications should tell the same story.
Get Clear Answers.
Review common questions about admission, PAL or TAL requirements, finances, refusals and changing schools.
Discuss your questions →No. IRCC also assesses finances, admissibility, the credibility of your study purpose and whether you will respect temporary-resident conditions.
Many applicants do, but exemptions exist. The letter must generally be valid for the cap year in which you apply. Confirm the latest rules for your level, institution and province or territory.
You must show tuition, living expenses and transportation. For applications on or after September 1, 2025 outside Quebec, the published first-year living amount starts at CAD $22,895 for one person and rises with family size.
Review the exact refusal grounds and the evidence considered. A stronger reapplication should directly resolve the concerns rather than repeat the same submission.
If you change your DLI before travelling, you generally need a new study permit application with a new LOA. Post-secondary students in Canada must follow IRCC’s current school-change instructions.
