Application foundations

What Officers Need To See.

A strong visitor application is not a pile of documents. Its facts and evidence must work together to answer the officer’s practical concerns.

Credible Purpose

Support tourism, family, business or event plans with dates, accommodation and relevant evidence.

Temporary Intent

Demonstrate that your visit is temporary and that you plan to leave Canada when authorized.

Meaningful Ties

Present employment, business, family, studies, property and other continuing obligations in context.

Explainable Funds

Show who pays, where the money came from and why the available amount suits the proposed trip.

Documents need context.A bank balance, invitation letter or property record is rarely persuasive on its own. The application should explain how each item supports the overall travel plan.

TRV eligibility framework

Build A Complete Case.

Applicants generally need a valid travel document, admissibility, sufficient funds and credible temporary intent.

01

Identity & History

Provide a valid passport and disclose travel, immigration, criminal and medical history accurately.

  • Passport
  • Travel history
  • Full disclosure
02

Purpose & Duration

Explain what you will do in Canada, where you will stay and why the proposed length is reasonable.

  • Purpose letter
  • Dates
  • Accommodation
03

Finances & Support

Show enough accessible funds for travel, accommodation and living costs, including sponsor evidence if relevant.

  • Bank records
  • Income source
  • Sponsor proof
04

Return Considerations

Document the personal and economic circumstances that make returning after the visit credible.

  • Employment
  • Family
  • Assets or studies
TRV, eTA and visitor record are different.A TRV or eTA is a travel document. A visitor record concerns status and authorized stay inside Canada. Your nationality, travel document and method of travel determine what you need.Check entry document ↗

Does The Stay Look Coherent?

Choose a proposed stay length and who will fund the visit. The result highlights evidence to prioritize; it is not an eligibility decision.

Plan to arrival

Move Forward With Clarity.

A disciplined sequence keeps the forms, supporting evidence and travel narrative aligned.

ASSESS01

Define The Visit

Confirm the correct travel document, purpose, proposed dates and key risks.

PREPARE02

Build The Evidence

Organize finances, home ties, host records and travel details around the purpose.

APPLY03

Submit Consistently

Complete forms accurately, upload the supporting file and follow biometric instructions.

TRAVEL04

Prepare For Entry

Carry relevant documents and be ready to explain the visit at the port of entry.

Host and invitation evidence

Make The Invitation Useful.

An invitation can support the purpose and logistics of a visit, but it does not replace the applicant’s own eligibility evidence or guarantee approval.

Read official invitation guidance
VISITOR

Identify The Traveller

Include the visitor’s name, date of birth, contact details, relationship to the host and the purpose of travel.

TRIP

Explain The Stay

State expected dates, accommodation, planned activities, who pays and when the visitor plans to leave.

HOST

Document The Host

Provide the host’s Canadian address, status, occupation, household details and relevant identity evidence.

CONSISTENCY

Match The Application

The invitation, forms, applicant letter, itinerary and financial evidence should tell the same story.

Previous visitor visa refusal

Do Not Simply Reapply.

A new application should respond to the real concerns in the refusal decision and any available officer notes. Adding more pages without correcting the underlying weakness can repeat the same outcome.

Review → Explain → Rebuild
  • Compare the refusal reasons with the submitted evidence.
  • Correct inconsistencies, gaps and unsupported assumptions.
  • Disclose every prior refusal accurately in the new forms.

Visitor visa questions

Get Clear Answers.

Understand visa validity, length of stay, invitations, funds, multiple entry and the difference between a visa and visitor status.

Discuss your visit

A visitor is normally admitted for up to six months, but a border officer can authorize a different period. The visa expiry date is not the same as the date your authorized stay ends.

Strategic visitor visa review

Make Every Document Support The Visit.

Review your purpose, evidence, home ties and risk points before you submit—or before you reapply after a refusal.
